Use a fictional purchase-to-pay scenario to practise SAP MM process thinking, document checks and exception handling before course selection.

When exploring an SAP MM course in Kalyan, look for learning that connects business documents to real decisions. A useful beginner exercise is to follow a purchase from the original requirement to the supplier invoice and explain what each team needs to verify.

The scenario here is fictional and simplified. Specific SAP screens, approval steps and accounting behaviour depend on the product edition and system configuration. It is a practice brief, not a universal posting procedure.

Set up a clear business requirement

Imagine a small business needs 40 keyboards for a new workspace. Write down the requesting department, required quantity, desired delivery date and intended use. Decide who can approve the purchase and what information is needed before approval.

Start with the purpose of the document rather than a transaction code. What would go wrong if the quantity, unit of measure or delivery location were missing? A process explanation should make those risks understandable to someone who has never used SAP.

Follow the document flow

A simplified sequence can include a purchase requisition, purchase order, goods receipt and invoice verification. Explain the role of each record and which earlier information it relies on. Distinguish requesting an item from committing to purchase it.

SAP’s sourcing and procurement learning material covers the broader purchasing process. In your course discussion, ask which parts you will practise directly and which configuration or master-data concepts are introduced alongside them.

Add an exception that requires thought

Suppose only 30 keyboards arrive, while the invoice refers to all 40. Record what was actually received, what remains outstanding and which discrepancy needs checking. Do not invent a receipt for the missing items just to make the documents match.

Then consider a different exception: the quantity is correct but the item delivered is not the one ordered. Explain why quantity matching alone would not settle the issue. Keep business checks separate from assumptions about a particular system’s automatic blocking rules.

Build a useful practice notebook

Use permitted training data only. Screenshots from a real employer’s purchasing system may contain confidential supplier, pricing or account information and should not be placed in a public portfolio.

Check understanding before adding more complexity

Explain the process aloud without looking at the screens. Can you distinguish an order, a receipt and an invoice? Can you identify which document should be corrected when an error is found? Can you say what remains uncertain instead of forcing a conclusion?

Once that is comfortable, ask about further scenarios such as returns, different stock situations or reporting. The right progression depends on your background and the current course outline.
